· Take your time with this chapter to study
the different memory devices as well as the different study and test-taking
strategies. Decide which ones you think will work for you and discuss them on
our blog. Look for the feedback from your classmates and see what you can learn
from each other. (20 pts.)*
I use the mnemonics strategy for studying. I didn't know there was a name for it. I am a good listener but I have to make sentences of the things I want to remember. I have truly enjoyed this class I have also enjoyed reading this book. It is very inspirational. I have learned a lot. I use to cram for test but, that never worked out for me. I do try to study as much as I can and not right before a test.
ReplyDeleteKatherine,
DeleteI agree with you that this class has taught me a lot. I think it has been The book gives many suggestions and different ideas of learning.
I habe also enjoyed this class a lot. I have gotten so much usable information form it. It makes me happy! I have not enjoyed a class in a long time.
DeleteI agree this has been a great class and it will help me in my other classes.
DeleteThere is no one way of learning that suits me. I think depending on the situation I might use the mnemonic way. If I have an assignment that it would help me by memorizing the first letter of the words than I definitely would use that. Now in pegging I think it would help me by associating words or meanings with things that I am already familiar with. I don't think that studying at the last minute is my style. Although I can say I have done that in a crunch. I think I remember better if I take my time and remember what I am learning. As far as taking tests I think it is best to take your time and think about the answer if it isn't obvious. If you don't know the answer come back to the question after you have finished the rest. I believe if you look away from it and come back you can think with a clearer mind
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. When I skip a question I don't know my mind has time to work on finding the anwers while I am anwsering the ones I know better.
DeleteWow! I think we should have begun with this chapter! I know when I use a variety of these techniques I do much better on tests. I find my biggest help would be on page 267, Thinking about Testing. If I could do that along with my newly refined Learning styles, I should be doing a lot better next semester. I am very glad I took this class. I think I have learned many usable, applicable, and necessary skills from this. This to me really puts control into my hands and in my mind of my day. I feel it will help me get more accomplished on a higher level. I also believe I am going to hang page 267 somewhere I can see it regularly, like the refrigerator to remind myself of it. I think these skills will help in me all aspects of my life.
ReplyDeleteI agree that we should have started with this chapter. learning all of these techniques will help me in the semesters to come.
DeleteI think this was a great chapter. I learned that learning differs for each individual. I can not say that one of these fits me though. I think my way of learning is a mixture of numerous things. Such as being a visual learner and listening and taking notes. So much comes into play when it comes to learning. This chapter helped me realize that learning can be a variety of things and that opening up is a good thing. I am usually a black and white kind of person but after reading this chapter I have realized that shades of gray are most needed in the world especially when it comes to learning. I am glad I took time to read this chapter and have learned a lot from it.
ReplyDeleteI also have many different ways on learning. It depends on what it is that I am learning, as to how I study and remember it. As other students stated I think this should have been chapter one and maybe a lot of things would have been easier for me to understand. My long term memory is way stronger then short time. So I constantly study because I now just because I read something don’t mean I will remember it. But if I continuously study and chat it aloud, it will help me remember things.
ReplyDeleteI have several learning techniques. It depends on what class it is, what the material is, and sometimes it depends on who is teaching the class. My memory is long term because I just cannot read something then remember it. I have to go over the material over and over and right before it is time for me to take a test I have to study before the test so that I can make sure that it is locked in and refreshed in my mind. I have learned a lot in this class and this class will help me when I have to study and take notes in other classes.
ReplyDeleteI believe that some of these tips on test taking will help me very much in coming semesters in college as well as the exams I will be taking this week. True false questions have always been very good kind of question to have on tests but they can also be very tricky sometimes. The tips in the book said to look for double negative words which seem to happen often on these types of questions. I will now look very closely for key words in true false questions as well as double negatives.
ReplyDeleteWhen a teacher gives a test everyone dreads when the teacher says that it is short answer. Sometimes I will forget the answer even though I may have studied it and knew the answer right before the test or quiz. I learned that even though the blank may be very long sometimes, it doesn’t always mean that the answer is long so I learned that I should never let the blank line alter what I think Is the correct answer.
Note taking has always been one of my weaknesses. Sometimes im just too lazy and other times I get frustrated when I can’t write as fast as the teacher is going. I learned that I don’t need to write everything down that the teacher is saying, just the things that are important. Also it is very important to know what you are actually taking notes on to get the full meaning.
Being a very musical person, I tend to use the Jingles/Rhymes method. I will make up songs and other rhyming lines to help me remember things on tests.
I think that this chapter was a really good chapter. It taught me all the different memory devices and testing strategies. I believe I am a mix of the different memory devices. It mostly depends on what I have to memorize or remember. Depending on the situation is when I will choose which one is best for me. As for testing these are all good strategies. Lately I have been studying at the last minute. I think I seem to remember it better when I look over the information right before the test.
ReplyDeleteI have a combination learning style. I use the mnemonic devices, I wasn't even aware of this. Since I can remember my teachers have taught us sayings, songs, and words to remember things. Like "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally" for how to solve what equations first in a math problem. I've also used pegging too. I've associated difficult words with something smiliar to help remember what they mean. The test taking strategies that have helped me out are the ones for the true and false strategies, my problem wasnt too big with these, but the tips will surely help! This class has taught me very valuable things about the way I learn, that I didn't even know about!

My learning style is pegging. I learn from things that are already familiar to me. I never knew about the other learning styles until I read chapter ten. Now I can try other ways of learning and maybe that will broaden my learning skills. I need to expand my learning style and chapter ten will help me very much. The test taking strategies that helped me the most is matching questions. I never looked at matching questions this way. This is going to help me along the way because I am going to apply all the strategies to enhance my test taking skills. I am going to read the rest of my chapters because this class has really broaden my knowledge and it has given me a new way to look at learning.
